Our Story
Growing up, I didn’t see many women confidently wearing their natural hair. My hair was naturally thick and time-consuming to manage, so I mostly straightened it because it felt easier. As I prepared to leave for college, knowing I wouldn’t have time for a long routine in a dorm, I chose to get a relaxer for manageability.
Everything shifted when I moved south to attend NCAT during the rise of the natural hair movement. For the first time, I saw women proudly wearing their natural textures. That exposure changed how I viewed my own hair, and I decided to transition. At first, I tried the popular natural hair brands recommended by influencers, expecting consistent results. But my hair didn’t always turn out how I hoped, and I was still searching for better manageability.
So I began experimenting with natural herbs like fenugreek and marshmallow root, learning firsthand how plants could strengthen and improve the manageability of my hair. Then I experienced a moment that completely shifted my perspective:
I learned that soap grows on trees.
Watching soapnuts create rich, natural suds felt almost unbelievable. It changed how I understood hair care and opened my eyes to how powerful plants could truly be.
During this same season, I experienced a deeply personal health challenge. I began noticing my stomach protruding and assumed it was weight gain. After becoming pregnant and experiencing a miscarriage, I went in for an ultrasound and discovered I had a large uterine fibroid that required removal through a C-section incision due to its size. I never imagined I would undergo that kind of surgery for something other than bringing a life into this world. It was a life-altering experience that made me more intentional about my overall wellness and led me to question the ingredients I used daily. As I began researching, I learned that some products promoted to Black women have been studied for containing endocrine-disrupting chemicals that may contribute to hormone-related health concerns, including conditions like uterine fibroids or PCOS. That realization deepened my commitment to finding natural alternatives I felt confident using. I later went on to become a mother of two, a blessing I do not take for granted.
As I became more intentional about my wellness, I began to understand the true power of herbs, not only for hair, but for overall well-being. I learned how to preserve these benefits into ready-to-use products.
For years, I refined these products for myself, and now I’m sharing them with you. Amplified Crown is committed to using simple, natural formulas designed to support healthier hair and a more intentional wash day experience.
